Applying to Graduate

Students should submit an “Application for Graduation” form to the Office of the Registrar, endorsed by their academic advisor, in the trimester before they plan to complete their degree requirements.  This form is available via the GCNYC Student Sharepoint site.

The Office of the Registrar will conduct an audit at this time to ensure that graduation requirements will have been fulfilled upon completion of the courses for which the student has registered.

A final audit is carried out after grades have been submitted for the final term of enrollment. Students may not graduate without having a complete ‘Graduation Audit’ conducted by the Office of the Registrar.

Only students in good financial standing will be eligible to receive their degree diploma and graduate. Students should be be in good financial standing no less than one month prior to the scheduled date for the release of their diploma and/or graduation.  Students who are not in good financial standing at this point will not receive their diploma nor be included in graduations.  They may re-apply to graduate at the next available opportunity as per the published schedule.

Students should refer to the appropriate GCNYC Catalog regarding the specific requirements to be eligible to graduate with an award.

As GCNYC currently has a provisional charter by the New York Board of Regents, all awards will be conferred by the New York Board of Regents before degree diplomas are issued.

Commencement Ceremony

The College holds one ceremony each year at the end of the Summer trimester (c) to recognize students’ achievements. Students who have completed their graduation requirements (as certified by the Registrar) and who have met all financial obligations to the College (as certified by the Finance Office) are permitted to take part in the ceremony. *For the year 2019/2020, there will be two Commencement ceremonies.

For the convenience of those students completing degree requirements in the Spring or the Fall Trimesters, degree diplomas are not held back until the next Graduation ceremony, but are issued at three points in the academic year.  All students, regardless of the semester during which they complete their studies, are entitled to participate in the next Graduation ceremony following their completion of requirements.
