WHAT: As the tiring COVID protocols in the new-normal leave us exasperated, and we miss the relative simplicity of pre-COVID life, the following quote by Sonya Renee Taylor, captures what Professor Onwuegbuzie would like us to reflect upon as we look to build back better.

In our speaker’s opinion, the pre-COVID world was on an unsustainable path to self-destruction, which the pandemic now compels us to reset with a greater sense of urgency. The destruction, as the quote reminds us, was on different levels – economic, social and environmental. Professor Onwuegbuzie’s discussion will focus on how business education and entrepreneurship can play an important role in building back better.

Henrietta Onwuegbuzie is a certified Management consultant and leads sessions in Entrepreneurship on the MBA and Executive programmes at Lagos Business School (LBS). She is currently the Director of E/MBA Programmes and Project Director for the Impact Investing policy initiative at the School. She was a Visiting Faculty at Yale School of Management, US in 2019. Henrietta has an MSc (with honours) in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Navarre, Spain; an MBA from LBS in Nigeria; and a PhD in Management and Entrepreneurship, from Lancaster University, UK. Onwuegbuzie sits on the Board of a number of Nigerian companies, and has extensive consulting experience, spanning projects at the State level to conglomerates and SME’s in various industries. She is passionate about economic development and social transformation in Nigeria and Africa, and has initiated the creation of over 100 profitable, social impact businesses through the MBA and Executive programmes at LBS.
She has presented award winning papers at various international conferences on entrepreneurship and sustainable development, and has been rated top 4% among Nigerian Executives in the education Management industry.

As we continue to be transformed by the far-reaching effects of the COVID-19 virus, we have the opportunity and the imperative to build back differently to create a better world, departing from practices which have gotten us to the challenging place we now find ourselves.
Whereas the mainstream now grants that sustainability and social impact are essential economic considerations as we build resiliency and learn from the pandemic’s recession and devastation, at GCNYC we know that simply layering “sustainability” and “social impact” onto business as usual is neither effective nor transformative enough to clean up and move past the deleterious effects of still-mainstream business practices.
